Quick Hits

🎵 Aquakultre spent years researching his ancestry and discovered a wrongful execution. 1783 drops Friday and features 17 tracks tracing Black Nova Scotian history, anchored by "Gallows," a song about his great-great-grandfather who was hanged in Halifax in 1935. The two-time Polaris nominee is now fighting to overturn the conviction. Read more at Exclaim.

❤️ A lot of seniors don't get anything on Valentine's Day. We Are Young is trying to change that with your help. $12 sends hand-crafted Rousseau chocolates and a note to a senior in the community. This is one of our favourite local campaigns.

🍷 Obladee, the Barrington Street wine bar facing eviction from its landlord Starfish Properties, is safe until May. A court injunction bought them time, but the fight isn't over. They're still waiting on HRM for building permit records that could
be key to their case. Read their statement on IG.

🎧 Aaron Siegner quit his 15-year schoolteaching career to start Halifax’s first DJ school. As DJ Double A, he created some of Halifax’s most beloved Tribeca DJ nights in the early 2000s. Now he’s teaching DJing and music production in the North End. We’re giving away a free 10-week in-person course while supporting Upward Kitchen’s meal token program. Enter to win here.

🏒 The Halifax Mooseheads take on the Cape Breton Eagles at Scotiabank Centre this Saturday at 7pm.

🎸 Big Shiny Tunes hits The Marquee this Friday and Saturday. This is probably the most anticipated theme night in Halifax music. An incredible band, and all-star lineup curated by Dave Sampson and Mike Farrington Jr (The Mellotones) performing classic 90s and early 2000s covers. Get tickets.
