Okay TK’s Hali picks, new Maggie Andrew, and more summer shows 🎵

Hey Hali!
This week: Maggie Andrew keeps stacking wins, Pours for Paws is back at Casino NS, and a few big summer shows just got announced — including Creed at the Garrison Grounds 🤯.
We also caught up with Okay TK — DJ, deli boss, party-thrower, and certified meme king — to get his favourite spots around the city.
Bide Awhile’s signature fundraiser Pours for Paws is back on April 5 at Casino Nova Scotia. From 7–10 PM, you can sip on local craft beer, wine, and spirits while enjoying snacks, music, and good vibes — all in support of companion animals in need. 🐶🍷 Grab your tickets and learn more here!
Four big concert announcements this week! Vance Joy plays the Scotiabank Centre in August with Newfoundland’s Fortunate Ones. Creed hits The Garrison Grounds on August 30 — more proof concerts on the hill are back. Sloan is bringing the classics to The Shore Club on July 25, and Tim Baker & All Hands follow on August 15. Big summer energy incoming.
⭐️ Song of the Week
Halifax’s Maggie Andrew is having a moment — and then some. After winning the CBC Music Searchlight grand prize and being named African Canadian Artist of the Year at the 2024 ECMAs, she lit up the stage at last summer’s Sommo Festival and is now heading into the 2025 ECMAs with five nominations. Her latest track Fall Like a Feather is our Song of the Week — give it a spin and see why Maggie’s star keeps rising.

Same networks as the big guys, but way better service — fast, friendly support by text and zero corporate nonsense. Plus, they’re a local small biz helping make this newsletter happen. If you’re thinking about switching providers, they’re a no-brainer. I’ve personally been with them for 5 years and couldn’t be happier!

One of the city’s top DJs, Okay TK has been holding it down in the local music scene for over 20 years with guaranteed sell-out events like Bump & Grind and High School Mixtape. He’s also the brains behind Buddy’s Deli (some of the best subs in town) and Golden Service, one of Halifax’s go-to mobile bar and catering companies. Oh — and he might be the funniest person on your feed. Meme king, community builder, all-around good guy. We love TK. Here’s what he loves about Halifax.
☕️ Coffee
Birds Nest Cafe
“I've recently been calling The Birds Nest Cafe on Barrington Street my second office. My actual workspace is just around the corner, but there's something about this cozy little spot that keeps pulling me back. Perfect for those ‘I need caffeine and inspiration’ moments.”
💨 Quick and Tasty
Dilly Dally Eats
“IF you can find a seat, I highly recommend Dilly Dally on Quinpool Road. The food is outstanding and the staff are super nice.”
🎵 Favourite Local Artist
Basyl
“One of my favourite artists is Basyl. What really draws me in to certain artists is watching genuine artistic growth - both in their music content and live performances. I've known Basyl for a couple years now, and he's been consistently elevating his music, showmanship, and work ethic. ”

🗓️ Events I'm Looking Forward To
High School Mixtape
“I may be a bit biased, but High School Mixtape tops my list this month. It's one of those feel good events that I'm lucky to throw together. Collaborating with some of our talented local artists and musicians makes this event something special.”
☀️ “Also, is Summer technically an event? Because if it is, I'm pretty stoked for that to come and hang out for a bit.”
🍽️ Favourite Eats
Freemans Quinpool Rd
“I would be committing a disservice to myself if I didn't mention Freemans on Quinpool. It's my goto sanctuary when I need a quiet booth to work on my laptop. I've already decided I'm naming my firstborn mozza sticks or garlic knots - the paperwork is pending.”
CHKN CHOP
“And when I'm absolutely ravenous, Chkn Chop is my goto. Everything they serve is top-notch. Your classic comfort food done really, really well. Everyone is great there!”
