👀 What’s Good This Week in Halifax

Hey Hali!
There’s a lot going on this week. The Mooseheads pulled off a wild upset and made QMJHL history, the Thunderbirds are playoff-bound, and the calendar is packed with shows, pop-ups, and all kinds of good stuff.
We’ve got a one-night-only film screening at the Bus Stop Theatre, an amazing new track from Braden Lam, and a weekend full of reasons to leave the house.
Oh, and we have a pair of tickets to a sold-out Friday night comedy show to give away. Find it first in the event listings!
Let’s get into it 👇

🏒 It’s a Great Time to Be a Halifax Sports Fan
The Mooseheads just pulled off a historic upset, becoming the first-ever 16th seed to win a QMJHL playoff series — knocking off the Drummondville Voltigeurs in Game 7 with a 2-0 stunner. They now head to Round 2 against Rouyn-Noranda, with home games at the Scotiabank Centre on Tuesday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 16.
Meanwhile, the Halifax Thunderbirds have officially clinched their NLL playoff spot after a clutch 13-10 win over San Diego. They wrap up the regular season on the road before playoffs kick off later this month.
💿 90s & 2000s Hits. Live Band. Stacked Lineup. High School Mixtape Returns For Volume 3.
High School Mixtape brings together the city’s best DJ (Okay TK), a stacked lineup of local talent, and the legendary Mellotones as the live backing band—performing classic 90s and 2000s hip-hop and R&B covers.
It’s all the songs you grew up on, played live, with a full band and a packed room singing every word. The lineup is unreal, the energy’s even better, and it’s always one of the funnest shows of the year at The Marquee.
It’s sold out the last two years and it’s going to sell out again. Get your tickets ASAP and don’t miss this show!
🎬 SKEET, A Movie Shot in St. John’s Over 7 Years Is Coming to Halifax for One Night Only
After serving time in prison, a tough Newfoundlander returns home to find his neighbourhood transformed — now full of Syrian refugee families.
At the heart of Skeet is his unexpected friendship with a Syrian cab driver, played by Jay Abdo — one of Syria’s most celebrated actors, who was forced to flee after publicly denouncing the Assad regime. He’s starred in films with Tom Hanks and Nicole Kidman, and here, brings extraordinary depth to a story that mirrors parts of his own life.
Filmed over seven years in a real St. John’s housing complex, Skeet captures time passing in quiet, powerful ways — children grow up on screen, lives shift, and a small story becomes something much bigger.
👉 It’s playing for one night only — April 14 at the Bus Stop Theatre. Don’t miss it.
⭐️ Song of the Week

Braden Lam’s Hurricane Season is everything we love about his songwriting—raw, honest, and full of east coast heart. It also landed him in the semi-finals of SiriusXM’s Top of the Country contest, where the winner takes home $25,000 and a performance slot at CCMA Country Music Week.
The winners haven’t been announced yet, but regardless of the result, Braden is one of Halifax’s most promising rising stars—and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
His new album The Cloudmakers Cry drops tomorrow. Follow him below and don’t miss it!
