🎸 Halifax This Weekend: Playoffs, Tribute Shows & Two Must-See Stories

Hey Hali!
Big weekend coming up — the Mooseheads kick off Round 1 of the QMJHL playoffs, five tribute shows are happening across the city (seriously, take your pick), and we’ve got two really cool local stories to share. An 18-year-old is throwing an 8-hour music fest to fight food insecurity, a local autistic filmmaker is debuting a new doc, a classic Cape Breton song of the week, and a spicy little ticket deal to top it all off. Let’s get into it 👇

🎸 This 18-Year-Old Is Throwing an 8-Hour Music Festival to Fight Food Insecurity
This is seriously impressive.
At just 16 years old, Ethan Chitty launched Food For The Ears — a DIY music festival to raise money for his local food bank in Truro and bring awareness to food insecurity.
Now, two years later, he’s 18, running a registered non-profit, and taking things to the next level. This year’s Food For The Ears Festival lands at the Lighthouse Arts Centre on April 6, featuring 8 hours of live music from some of the province’s top rock and punk acts — including Andre Pettipas and the Giants, Alan Syliboy and the Thunder Makers, Skunk Motel, and idialedyournumber — plus many more.
The goal? Raise $20,000 for Feed Nova Scotia.
🎟 Grab your tickets to support this incredible cause — and help Ethan pack the room.

💙 Wave Theory: A Local Doc Screening in Support of Autism NS
Brandon Boyd, an autistic filmmaker from Halifax, is debuting his new short documentary Wave Theory on April 2nd at the Bus Stop Theatre, as part of the Mayworks Halifax Festival of Working People & the Arts, and in honour of World Autism Acceptance Day. The film follows Cape Breton musician Leona Burkey, exploring her music and her journey as a parent. Wave Theory won Lunenburg Doc Fest’s “The Launch” contest, and all proceeds from the pay-what-you-can screening will support Autism Nova Scotia.
⭐️ Song of the Week
We’re taking it back to 2022 with this one. Maritime by Sydney’s Pretty Archie is one of those tracks that just sticks with you — it’s been in my heavy rotation ever since I discovered it. It’s got that raw, road-worn vibe — like The Band’s Atlantic City, but make it very Cape Breton. The kind of song that gets better every time you hear it.
