đ Mo Kenney's Halifavourites + this weeks top events

Hey Halifax!
In this weekâs edition: an incredible new song from Breagh Isabel, Mo Kenney takes us on a tour of Downtown Dartmouth, and a TON of great events to check out over the weekend and next week. Letâs get right into it!
QUICK HITS
Philippine Fiesta is happening this weekend at The Garrison Grounds. Swing by for some delicious food, music, and culture!
Halifax Urban Folk Festival just announced a killer lineup for this Fallâs festival.
Full Circle Festival is happening this weekend in Newport Landing, NS. If youâre looking for a reason to get out of the city and enjoy some great music, this is it.
Coastal Confidential is just about sold out. Weâve got 5 tickets left to our oceanside house concert with Brett Matthews and Nicole Ariana. If youâve been on the fence, youâd better scoop them up now!

âď¸ Song of the Week
You've almost certainly heard her music, even if you donât know Breagh Isabelâs name. She was one-third of East Coast supergroup Port Cities, has written and performed on songs with Ria Mae, Donovan Woods, and Classified, and her music regularly appears in shows like Greyâs Anatomy, FBI, and Selling Sunset.
Breagh is gearing up to release her debut EP this year, and if âLooking Out For Youâ is any indicator, it will be one of the best East Coast releases of 2025.
Bonus: Check out Breagh + Mo Kenneyâs acoustic performance of the song on YouTube.
Mo Kenney has been a mainstay on the East Coast music scene for the past 15 years, most recently appearing on the incredible âSongs From The Gangâ Joel Plaskett tribute album, and their own 2004 album âFrom Nowhereâ.
If after 15 years of writing some of the best songs in Atlantic Canadian music you still arenât familiar, maybe itâs time. Stream âFrom Nowhereâ and buy tickets Moâs June 24 show at The Sanctuary in Dartmouth!
We asked Mo to share some of their favourite spots in Hali, and they delivered a stellar best-of Downtown Dartmouth list:
The Ordeals at The Buffalo Club
It usually happens on the last Saturday of every month and itâs at The Buffalo Club in Dartmouth. The Ordeals are an amazing band and they play a mix of originals and old country music. Everyone dances and itâs the cutest night out youâll ever have.
CafĂŠ Good Luck
I eat a breakfast sandwich from this cafe at least once a week. Their coffee is amazing, their baked goods are amazing and the staff are so friendly. Have Fun Coffee is delicious and roasted in Dartmouth!
Dartmouth Commons
I donât have a backyard or a balcony at my place in Downtown Dartmouth, so I bring a blanket to the Dartmouth Commons and post up with a book and a bubbly. If you climb the hill to the gazebo thereâs an amazing view of Halifax. You can watch the ferries go back and forth. Exciting! If you are a berry lover like myself, thereâs lots to find throughout the park.
Morleyâs
I spend A LOT of time here. Records! Books! Coffee! Tapes! Brendan Morley! Theyâve got an excellent book selection at Friction and I would bet money that Brendan makes the best coffee in the city.
Nature Folk
Whenever possible I like to do the thermal circuit at Nature Folk on the Dartmouth Waterfront. Itâs a beautiful spot! If I really want to treat myself Iâll get a massage too. The circuit has a cold plunge pool, hot tub, two saunas and a salt scrub. Whenever I walk home from a few hours at Nature Folk I feel like I am floating on a cloud.
Doraku
I eat here too often! The sushi is so good. In the warmer months their deck is a really great spot to have a meal. Excellent people watching and the staff are extremely sweet. It is a lovely little gem of a restaurant.
The Sanctuary Arts Centre
A wonderful addition to the venue roster in Dartmouth. Iâve been to many shows here since the old stone church was converted into an arts space. Upstairs is a large, high-ceilinged room with tiered seating. There isnât a bad seat in the house. Iâll be playing my own show there for the first time on June 26th!
An Empty (For Now) Lot
At the top of Edward St. in Dartmouth there is a weird little lot that you can cut through to get to the park. Itâs overgrown and teeming with birds and berries! If you like cardinals, thereâs usually quite a few in the trees. I like to go in there and poke around. Go soon! Iâm sure itâll be a condo building in a few months.
SPONSORED
