Official Rules

Lemons to Lemonade nomination rules: the fine print behind the story series.

Effective August 11, 2026 · Amended August 24, 2026 · Halifax, Nova Scotia

  1. August 24 amendment

Effective August 24, 2026, the nomination period is extended through August 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Atlantic so the three announced solo story features can run during the entry period. All eligible nominations submitted before this amendment remain valid and are judged identically under the unchanged criteria. No prize, eligibility rule or selection criterion is reduced or changed.

  2. Sponsor and promoter

This promotion is presented by Island Folk Cider House (Sydney, Nova Scotia; info@islandfolkcider.ca) and administered by Halifamous Media (Halifax, Nova Scotia; greg@halifamous.ca). It is part of a disclosed sponsored editorial series.

  3. Entry period

Nominations open August 11, 2026 and close August 30, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Atlantic. Server time is definitive.

  4. Eligibility

Nominators must be 19 or older and residents of Nova Scotia. Nominees must be 19 or older, connected to Nova Scotia, and willing to be contacted if selected. Employees of Island Folk Cider House and Halifamous Media, and their immediate families, are not eligible. Self-nominations are welcome and are judged identically.

  5. No purchase necessary

No purchase or payment of any kind is required or improves a nominee’s chance of selection.

  6. How to enter

The nomination form on the campaign hub is the only entry method. Comments, likes, shares, tags and follows are not entries and do not affect selection.

  7. Prizes

Three (3) prizes. Each consists of a dinner reservation for the winner and one guest at a Halifax restaurant selected by Island Folk Cider House and confirmed with each winner: a three-course dinner, with Island Folk Good Company cider served under the restaurant’s responsible-service policy and a non-alcoholic option available, plus one take-home six-pack of Island Folk cider provided through an age-verified fulfilment route. Approximate retail value: at least $200 per prize; the confirmed restaurant and value will be published here before winners are selected. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. If the restaurant cannot accommodate a winner’s dietary, accessibility or scheduling needs, an equivalent dining substitute of no lesser value will be provided. Reservations are coordinated between September 1 and September 30, 2026.

  8. Selection

This is a skill-based selection, not a random draw and not a public vote. A three-person panel — one Halifamous representative, one Island Folk representative and one neutral community representative — scores eligible nominations against published criteria: strength and clarity of the turning-point story (40%), Nova Scotia and community relevance (30%), potential to inspire or help others (20%), and feasibility, availability and consent to publish (10%). Likes, follower counts and shares play no part.

  9. Screening

Nominations centred on alcohol or substance recovery are not selected, in keeping with advertising standards governing alcohol sponsorship. Halifamous confirms eligibility and final editorial suitability.

  10. Skill-testing question

Each selected nominee, and any promoted alternate, must correctly answer a time-limited four-part mathematical skill-testing question before being declared a winner.

  11. Verification and release

Selected nominees are contacted privately. Before any announcement, each must verify their facts and age, confirm willingness to participate, complete a 15-minute follow-up interview within 48 hours, and sign a story, photo and content release. A selected person may decline to have their story told publicly without forfeiting the tangible prize.

  12. Alternates and withdrawal

If a selected nominee declines before announcement, the next ranked eligible alternate is contacted. After winners are announced publicly, no substitution is made; if an announced winner withdraws, the winner feature publishes with the remaining stories.

  13. Announcement

Winners are announced on or about September 3, 2026, after acceptance and signed release.

  14. Privacy and data

Nominator and nominee information is used to administer this promotion, including result notices. Marketing consent is separate, optional and specific to each named sender. Consent records are retained three years. Raw nominated stories are not published.

  15. Conduct

Halifamous may disqualify duplicate, fraudulent, abusive or ineligible entries at its discretion.

  16. Amendments

Halifamous reserves the right to amend these rules, including extending the entry period, or to suspend or end the promotion where required for its fairness, integrity or lawful operation. Any change is posted on this page with its effective date, and no change reduces the prizes or disadvantages nominations already submitted.

  17. Instagram

This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram or Meta. By entering, each entrant releases Instagram and Meta from all liability in connection with this promotion.

  18. Governing terms

This promotion is governed by the laws of Nova Scotia. Island Folk Cider House approves all alcohol-related and brand language. Halifamous retains final editorial responsibility for the campaign’s journalism.

Open to Nova Scotia residents 19+. Nominate yourself or another adult. ID may be requested. No purchase necessary. Winners answer a skill-testing question. Nominations close August 30, 11:59 p.m. Atlantic. Selected people are contacted privately and announced only after acceptance and a signed release.
