❄️ Maritime Mistletoe + Hali's top weekend events

Hey Halifax!
This week we’ve a can’t-miss show from Jon Bryant, our hometown women’s curling team battling for an Olympic spot, a local filmmaker selling out from Halifax to LA, and a Song of the Week from the great Quake Matthews. Plus the best events happening around town all week.
Let’s dig in.
This Week In Hali
1️⃣ Jon Bryant’s Maritime Mistletoe show is your only chance to see Jon in Halifax before he heads out on tour across Europe and the US next year. Joining Jon are Brett Matthews, Julia Cunningham, and Alexander Anderson. There are a handful of tickets left, so grab one while you can - this is going to be excellent. Get tickets here.
2️⃣ Halifax’s Christina Black and her team from the Halifax Curling Club have made it through to the semi-finals of the Canadian Curling Trials that are taking place in Halifax this week. A win this afternoon at 1pm will put them through to the final, the winner of which will represent Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. Tune in this afternoon on TSN, or grab tickets and go cheer them on live at Scotiabank Centre! Tickets here.
3️⃣ Halifax filmmaker Katelyn McCulloch is building one of North America’s most exciting platforms for female-led comedy from right here in Halifax. Her SHENANIGANS event (tonight @ Park Lane) sold out in 72 hours, is returning to Los Angeles (where it sold out last year), and will expand to Toronto in the New Year. Read more here.
4️⃣ The Underground is one of Halifax’s coolest monthly events. They don’t have social media accounts, there are no phones allowed, and the show itself is kept secret aside from the theme until you arrive at the venue (which also kept secret until 24 hours before the event). “The Underground was created out of inspiration from the before times ~ when you would hear about something secret or epic and take a chance and go.” | Nov 28-29 - take a chance and grab tickets here.
5️⃣ Evergreen Festival continues this week on the waterfront with their holiday market, live music, Public Gardens Holiday Lights and Merry & Bright Patio. Lot’s of fun holiday experiences for all ages. More info here.
With 400k monthly Spotify listeners, Jon Bryant is one of the most streamed Atlantic Canadian artists, and he just moved back to Halifax with his wife and new-born baby.
Do yourself a huge favour:
Go follow him on Spotify and listen through his top tracks.
Realize you’ve heard his music and had no idea he was from Halifax OR discover one of the East Coast’s best songwriters for the first time.
Scoop up one of the handful of remaining tickets for his show tonight at The Sanctuary Arts Centre in Dartmouth.
Thank us tomorrow.
Halifax emcee Quake Matthews does not stop. One of the most prolific artists in Canadian hip-hop, he continues the rollout of his new album with "Winds of Change", a deep reflection on how giving up alcohol 11 months ago has renewed his energy and kicked his music and personal life into a new gear.
Listen to him speak about it in this Instagram reel, and check out the song below.
I'd never change the path I chose. I've traveled the world, collaborated with my heroes — I've got a song with Ice Cube and Scarface, I can casually talk to Drake on Instagram. But the internet only gets the highlight reel. You don't see the self-doubt, comparing yourself to friends who are more financially stable, spending car money on an album and praying that investment comes back. I used to turn to alcohol to numb those feelings, but 11 months ago I realized it wasn't sustainable. I had to face my fears and run towards them head-on.
