👀 Laura Roy's Debut Album + this week's events
Hey Halifax!
A quick one this week as we’re poolside in Cancun on vacation — but the one thing you need to know is that one of Nova Scotia’s most acclaimed vocalists is back home from the UK to release her debut album. Laura Roy is taking a break from playing sold out Wembley Stadium shows with Sabrina Carpenter, BBC Live Lounge’s with Dupa Lipa, and touring the world with artists like Jalen Ngonda to bring us a super intimate album release show.
Plus, Mayworks Festival is back with a killyer lineup (win tickets below), the Halifax Tides kick off their season at The Wanderer’s Grounds this weekend, and there are a ton of amazing shows to catch around town.
Oh, and you’ve got 3 days left of Burger Bash to support Feed NS and explore some delicious burgers
Let’s dig in 👇
The winds of change are blowing!
The winds of change can be unpredictable, but every small action builds on another toward a future we may not always see for ourselves. Celebrate every break in rank and every tie to the past that signals the future. Join Mayworks in knowing that amidst the turbulence, we have each other.
April 25 to May 10, Mayworks offers an incredible array of events including kite-flying, a hip hop showcase, a jazz concert and an award winning dance show. Support Palestine by attending a concert with John Kameel Farah or celebrate Mothers’ Day with a play that challenges misinformation about reproductive justice through a history of the speculum.

🔥Must See Show: Laura Roy’s Album Release
Laura Roy is one of Nova Scotia’s best kept secrets, and certainly one of the most talented vocalists to ever come out of the East Coast. Over the last couple of years, she has become one of the most in-demand backup vocalists in the UK from her home base in London. Here’s a small sample of her resume:
2 Grammy nominations for her writing contributions to Doja Cat’s 2021 Planet Her.
Played multiple sold-out Wembley Stadium shows and toured the world singing backup vocals for major artists.
Performed as a backup vocalist for Sabrina Carpenter, Dua Lipa, Jalen Ngonda and others.
Won the 2025 ECMA for Vocal Recording of the Year for her single Lucy.
She’s celebrating the release of her debut album Late Bloomer Season with a show at The Sanctuary Arts Centre on May 31. This show will absolutely sell out, so do yourself a favour and grab tickets while you can.
