👀 Kristyn Green’s Hali-faves, new Baby Nova, and a secret oceanside show

Hey Halifax!
We’re finally getting our first real taste of summer, and we’re celebrating properly.
On June 28, we’re teaming up with Toller to throw an exclusive oceanside house concert featuring two of the East Coast’s best voices. Picture golden hour, cold drinks, good people, and only 45 tickets. You’ll want to be there.
Also in this issue: a new gem from Baby Nova, the finale of this year’s Mayworks Festival, and Halifavourites from the one and only Kristyn Green.
Let’s get into it 👇
We’re throwing a summertime matinee house concert with Toller
We’ve teamed up with Toller Lager to throw a super intimate and exclusive oceanside house concert featuring two of the East Coast’s most incredible voices: Brett Matthews and Nicole Ariana.
Join us on June 28th at our gorgeous secret oceanside Airbnb, just outside the city. Guests will be shuttled to and from the venue by Barkeep Cocktails and treated to refreshments from Toller and Barkeep.
Only 45 tickets are available, and we don’t expect they’ll last very long.

The Mayworks Festival of Working People & the Arts closes this Friday with a screening of "Union" at Park Lane Cineplex. The Sundance-winning documentary bookends one of the city's most diverse cultural programs, which featured both local and international acts across art disciplines. From hip hop to circus acts, VR to heritage tours, Mayworks had it all. And for those who want more, it's not entirely over. Mayworks will offer its Working Class Heritage Tours on demand throughout the summer months and launch Mayworks Momentum - a new presentation series opening August 2025 with a new production by Matchstick Theatre. Details will be revealed in the coming weeks at MayworksKjipuktukHFX.ca
⭐️ Song of the Week
Back in March, we introduced you to Baby Nova as Halifax’s next indie pop star with her breakout single Too Pretty for Buffalo. She hasn’t slowed down since. That song just passed 1.5 million streams on Spotify—and now there’s a dreamy new video to go with it.
She also just dropped Great White Sharks, a cinematic slow-burn that cements her place as one of the most exciting voices coming out of Canada.
She’s Nova Scotia’s answer to Lana Del Rey, but somehow even cooler. She’s playing The Roxy in LA next week with Kate Hudson (!), but until we get a hometown show, do yourself a favour: spend some time with her music this week, and enjoy watching her star rise.

Same networks as the big guys, but way better service — fast, friendly support by text and zero corporate nonsense. Plus, they’re a local small biz helping make this newsletter happen. Kristyn Green is a comedian, actor, TV host, and most recently, the co-founder of Halifax’s first no-tipping restaurant, The Bonfire, with her husband Vince Morley. She’s a true builder, and if you’re not following her yet, you should be.
This week, she shares her Halifax essentials—and every one of them hits.
Favourite Band
Long Call
They’re the sweetest, most talented siblings - every time I see them, my mouth and heart hurt from smiling so much! Their song “One Trick Pony” gets stuck in my head every day, and I never mind! Seriously can’t recommend this band enough - I can’t believe they’re local!
Favourite Event
Atlantic Boylesque’s Planet Pride
AB literally changed my life - it is the most supportive, inclusive, talented, creative, loving group of people I have ever met. We go ALL OUT for our Pride show (we’re literally practising for it now) and this summer will be our 3rd! July 25th at the Marquee!
Favourite Drink
Smokehouse’s Strawberry Pilsner
It is my husband’s favourite drink and he got me on them so hard!! We love Smokehouse - family-run, and they do actually just make the best beer. The Straw Pils are absolutely essential for summer (unless you don’t drink alcohol, then I LOVE Cove Kombucha!)
Favourite Restaurant
The Bonfire
Okay, I’m not saying The Bonfire just because it’s my own!!! But Vince and I talked about making a feel-good, comfy, inclusive restaurant space ever since we got together, and I couldn’t be more proud of it and him. I spend all of my time there. Our Mac and Cheese literally heals me.
Favourite People
I am proud to know a lot of people in this city - this place is full of the kindest and most creative people! But I have to go with my 2 brothers on this one - my brother Tommy is an extremely talented musician and entertainer (his song “So Long” gets stuck in my head all the gd time), and my brother Ben is an extremely talented realtor (with the most beautiful Airbnb @foxpointlakehouse). I always feel very proud and excited when people know us separately, and then find out we are siblings!! ❤️
Favourite Place(s)
The Deckbox
Vince and I love going to The Deck Box!! Sweetest owners. We get all of our Pokemon and Lorcana cards there, then love to sneak over to the Brown Hound on Agricola to play :) (and see Denise)
Favourite Thing
I love how friendly this city is!! I’ve lived in bigger cities and they’re so cold in comparison. It’s a city that feels like a neighbourhood - everyone has friends that they made from just talking to someone in a pub, at a show, on the bus. I love that about this place.
