Mo Kenney's Halifax

Mo Kenney·musician & singer-songwriter8 picksMay 2026
A mainstay on the East Coast music scene for the past 15 years, Mo Kenney has built a reputation as one of the region's most beloved singer-songwriters. Most recently appearing on the incredible Songs From The Gang Joel Plaskett tribute album, and their own 2024 album From Nowhere, Mo knows their corner of the map intimately — and that corner is Downtown Dartmouth. Here are their favourite spots across the bridge.
It usually happens on the last Saturday of every month and it's at The Buffalo Club in Dartmouth. The Ordeals are an amazing band and they play a mix of originals and old country music. Everyone dances and it's the cutest night out you'll ever have.

I eat a breakfast sandwich from this cafe at least once a week. Their coffee is amazing, their baked goods are amazing and the staff are so friendly. Have Fun Coffee is delicious and roasted in Dartmouth!
I don't have a backyard or a balcony at my place in Downtown Dartmouth, so I bring a blanket to the Dartmouth Commons and post up with a book and a bubbly. If you climb the hill to the gazebo there's an amazing view of Halifax. You can watch the ferries go back and forth. Exciting!

If you are a berry lover like myself, there's lots to find throughout the park.

Whenever possible I like to do the thermal circuit at Nature Folk on the Dartmouth Waterfront. It's a beautiful spot! If I really want to treat myself I'll get a massage too. The circuit has a cold plunge pool, hot tub, two saunas and a salt scrub.

Whenever I walk home from a few hours at Nature Folk I feel like I am floating on a cloud.

I eat here too often! The sushi is so good. In the warmer months their deck is a really great spot to have a meal. Excellent people watching and the staff are extremely sweet. It is a lovely little gem of a restaurant.

A wonderful addition to the venue roster in Dartmouth. I've been to many shows here since the old stone church was converted into an arts space. Upstairs is a large, high-ceilinged room with tiered seating. There isn't a bad seat in the house.

I'll be playing my own show there for the first time on June 26th!
At the top of Edward St. in Dartmouth there is a weird little lot that you can cut through to get to the park. It's overgrown and teeming with birds and berries! If you like cardinals, there's usually quite a few in the trees. I like to go in there and poke around.

Go soon! I'm sure it'll be a condo building in a few months.
