Monday, November 2 | 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM Join us to weave with willow and learn the fundamentals of stake and strand basketry. This is a one-day beginner crash course in weaving a base, sides and border of a basket. Led by instructors Susie Murphy and Julie Stinson, the class will combine group demonstrations and one-on-one assistance to help each participant weave their own delightful small round basket. Suitable for beginners, hand strength required to work the willow. We will learn the basics of stake and strand basketry in this beginner class. Beginning with pairing a base, then adding our stakes and waling the sides before ending with a simple border. Hurrah- we will all weave a small basket but more importantly we will get to spend a day digging into this ancient craft and learning the fundamental techniques. We will be getting the feel of willow and weaving all day long- suitable for beginners but hand-strength and stamina is a must. Limited to 8 participants. All tools and materials are provided, along with coffee/tea. Please bring along your own lunch, or add a lunch option from the Rose & Kettle Tea Room for $12 plus HST. Minimum 8 participants required for workshop to proceed. If minimum participation is not met, all participants will be refunded. Reserve your space now! This workshop has sold out.
