The Birthing Tree

In 1955, Aliet's mother dies giving birth beneath an old oak where Indigenous women have given birth for generations, and her grandmother, a midwife, raises her in midwifery and traditional medicine. Aliet turns away from that life as an adult, then returns to the family home after her grandmother's death and confronts a long-kept family secret. It is Peters's second novel.
