CB’s Morgan Toney Wins His First Juno
Cape Breton's Morgan Toney won Traditional Roots Album of the Year at the Junos for Heal the Divide - his first win after two nominations. He's 27, from Wagmatcook First Nation, and plays what he calls "Mi'kmaltic" — Mi'kmaq traditional songs fused with Cape Breton Celtic fiddling.
Three out of five nominees in his category were from Nova Scotia (Cassie and Maggie, Heather MacIsaac). Cape Breton's Goldie Boutilier was also nominated for Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Halifax’s Cloverdale was nominated for Electronic Album of the Year.
Nova Scotia is living up to it’s reputation as the songwriting capital of Canada.
