With Hasan in Gaza

Screening times: Saturday, June 13, 6:00 PM Friday, June 26, 6:30 PM Kamal Aljafari | Palestine, Germany, Switzerland, France. Qatar | 2025 | 106 min Arabic with English subtitles Three MiniDV tapes shot in 2001 are recovered two decades later, revealing a journey through Gaza that began as a search for a former prison mate and unfolded as a road trip with a local guide, Hasan, now lost to time and war. Streets, markets and shorelines appear with immediacy; gestures and voices return from a place that is now unrecognizable The footage in With Hasan in Gaza is presented in the order it was found, allowing the images to ‘make’ the film and the archive to lead. An homage to people and places erased, the film recognises the archive as both memory and evidence, asking what images can still do when the present is marked by devastation. Rather than reconstructing events with commentary, the footage follows the rhythm of the day today, conversations rising and falling, children bursting with excitement about being filmed. The sense of a loss lingers, as if the material had waited for its moment to speak. "A raw but poignant snapshot of Gaza during the Second Intifada." -Amber Wilkinson, Screen Daily "With Hasan in Gaza brilliantly centres the need to bear witness as no less than a matter of life and death, preservation and loss, liberation and occupation." - Thomas Flew,Sight and Sound $12.00 ($11.40 at the door if available) Saturday, June 13, 6:30 Tickets Friday, June 26, 6:30 PM Tickets
