About

A year doesn’t seem right unless we have a Norma MacDonald date on our calendar, so we’re happy to announce she’s bringing her band with her for a show at The Carleton – along with an opening set from Logan Edward MacKay – on Friday, November 6th. Live music will get underway at 8 PM and ticket’s will be $30 + HST. Multiple ECMA and Music Nova Scotia Award nominee, Norma MacDonald, is a veteran of the Halifax indie folk/alt-country scene. She’s currently working on her 7th album (lucky #7!) with Juno nominated producer Dan Ledwell. Norma’s songs often seem simple on the surface, but each listen implores you to dig a little deeper and see what you might find. A fun-loving, wise-cracking storyteller with a big heart and a golden voice, you don’t want to miss this chance to see Norma (along with her fabulous band) live in this intimate setting. Logan Edward MacKay is a singer-songwriter from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Logan has found a sweet spot between the reflective truth within songwriting with an alternative edge. His music conveys the harsh but honest realities of life, drafting out its blisses and burdens while capturing the feelings of grief, doubt and love. Grief, sentiment, and acceptance combine deftly with honeyed melodies for an authentic reflection of a young man’s life on Leaman, the debut album from singer-songwriter Logan Edward MacKay. Produced and co-written by Future Dad (aka John Mullane) at his studio above a pizzeria in suburban Halifax, Leaman arrives as a fully formed statement of MacKay’s intentions: real life, beautifully sung and artfully arranged. At the centre is his strong, steadfast voice trained by approaches technical (operatic singing at Memorial University) and casual (covering Hey Rosetta and City and Colour). Leaman’s eight songs can be gentle and quiet (“Blue Bird,” “The Sky”); upbeat and intense (“White Lie,” “They Can Tell,” “Second to Talk”); melancholic and reflective (“Yer Friends,” “Already Gone”); and hopefully romantic (“Day Trip”). It’s a dynamic, melodic reflection on a period of loss, change, and renewal as suited for a summer drive as it is a late-night chat.
