ICYMI: Sk+te'kmujue'katik (At The Place of Ghosts)

Screening times: Friday, July 24, 6:30 PM Bretten Hannam | Canada | 2026 | 86 mins English, Mi'kmaq and French with English subtitles ICYMI stands for “In Case You Missed It (at the Multiplex)”, where we screen films we think deserve a longer theatrical run! In this bold and unflinching ghost story, siblings Mise’l and Antle, close confidants as children, have drifted apart as adults. When a malevolent spirit begins tormenting them, the siblings are forced to reunite and journey into Sk+te’kmujue’katik (the Place of Ghosts), a primordial forest that exists outside of time, to confront their violent upbringing. Sk+te’kmujue’katik is a visceral supernatural thriller, 11 years in the writing, elevated by the deeply personal work of Two-Spirit, L’nu filmmaker Bretten Hannam from Kespukwitk, L’nuekati (Nova Scotia). It appears on the Toronto International FIlm Festival's list of the top 10 Canadian Films of 2025. "A moody, dreamy descent into Indigenous folklore and deep-set familial trauma, Sk+te'kmujue'katik (At the Place of Ghosts) is a stirring horror drama." - Alex Kaan, Phantasmag "There’s imagery in this I’ve never seen in a feature film before…It all works as an allegory of trauma and healing from an indigenous frame of reference." - Stephen Cooke, Flaw in the Iris “Throughout the film, the supernatural is made believable by its basis in Mi’kmaq spirituality. Connecting the land’s pain with colonial disruption lends a deeper dimension to the concept of disturbed spirits." - Patrick Quinn, Nation Winner: Gordon Parsons Award for Best Atlantic Feature - Atlantic International Film Festival, 2025 Tickets $12 ($11.40 at the door if available) Friday, July 24, 6:30 PM tickets
