About this event

Strange Plants is a fun-loving 6 piece band that brings a high-energy psychedelic sound filled with infectious grooves, rich harmony and lush soundscapes and return - along with special guest Mat Hughes - to The Carleton on Friday, October 17th. Live music gets underway at 8 PM and tickets are $15 + HST in advance, or $20 + HST at the door. Strange Plants draws its roots from the creative partnership of Travis Flint and Matt Brannon, formerly of Halifax alt-country band Hot Mondy. With influences ranging from Pink Floyd and Supertramp to MGMT and Jack White, the band crafts a sound that’s rich in texture and steeped in analog authenticity. Recorded over eight intense days at Nashville’s Creative Workshop Studio, Strange Plants’ upcoming self-titled debut album features the talents of producer Robbie Crowell, along with standout guitar contributions from Adam Meisterhans. The album captures Strange Plants’ mission: to merge the warmth of vintage psychedelia with the edge of modern rock. Mat Hughes is singer-songwriter based in Halifax. Mat’s latest EP, South-Facing Dumpster, offers listeners an earnest and relatable take on topics like climate dread, dissociation, and grappling with an increasingly uncertain future.
