How this chart works

Every week we measure how songs from East Coast artists are moving across streaming, radio, and new releases, then rank the 20 with the most momentum. Nothing is hand-picked, paid for, or voted on. The chart is driven by real data.

Streaming74%
Spotify track popularity and week-over-week momentum
Fresh releases10%
Newer songs earn a boost that fades as they age
Radio airplay8%
The stronger of titled plays across our disclosed station panel or current Canadian format-chart evidence
Last.fm listeners8%
Real listener counts from an independent, hard-to-game source
  • Songs also earn credit for charting on the CBC Music Top 20, an independent editorial cross-check.
  • Sustained popularity counts for more than week-to-week movement. A big song holds its place; a one-week spike is capped, so climbing fast lifts a song without carrying it.
  • A song leaves the chart only when it is both low-ranked and falling, never for being old. A genuine hit can hold its spot as long as it is still hot.
  • Each artist holds one slot in the Top 20. Their other songs that score inside the Top 20 sit under that slot as "+ more", so they never push another artist out. On the Rise only names artists who aren't already on the chart.
  • The formula is versioned and recomputed weekly; positions are never edited by hand.

Why charting matters

A spot on the East Coast 20 is a documented, independent record of momentum: your position, peak, and weeks on chart come from real streaming, radio, and listener data that nobody can buy or vote onto the list. That makes it a credential you can cite in grant applications, press kits, and booking pitches.

Funding bodies weigh exactly this kind of evidence. FACTOR's artist ratings consider radio airplay, streaming history, and live activity, and campus radio charting feeds the same pipeline. Charting here gives you a third-party record of your momentum, updated every week.
